Embossed Cotton-Kutnuculuk
The traditional Kutnu fabric is produced in Gaziantep -located in Southeastern Anatolia of Turkey- and its surroundings. The name “Kutnu” comes from an Arabic word “kut’n” meaning “cotton”. Kutnu fabric production in Gaziantep dates to the 16th Century. At the beginning, these traditional fabrics were mentioned as “Palace Fabric” since Sultan’ s kaftans were made with them. Kutnu symbolized power, beauty, and elegance. Later as the time passed, it was also preferred by the public, especially the wealthy ones. Today Kutnu is utilized mostly for the costumes of folk dancers, ties, scarves, bags, slippers, decorative cushions, souvenirs, curtains, upholstery, and other accessories. Lining for the fur coats is another place where Kutnu fabrics are preferred. Different clothes have different names according to their stripping number: 1-Kutnu 2- Alaca 3- Meydaniye
