String art is not a new fad; its origins go back to the 19th century.
Wire art or pin and thread art is characterized by an arrangement of colored threads or metal wires stretched between dots to create geometric patterns or representative designs such as the sails of a ship, sometimes with other artist materials that make up the rest of the work. Thread, wire, or twine is wrapped around a grid of nails nailed to a velvet-covered board. Artists use lines of thread to create curved patterns that can form various desirable shapes.
