The rich Jewelry artisans’ region of Maras had developed its own style of embroidery. A design is transferred to multi-layered thick papers and carefully carved out to form a raised effect base. Then the paper is glued on the base fabric. On top of the base, a metallic thread and a waxed natural fiber thread is used in the back to stitch over the design. The result is a raised rich-looking pattern. Gold, Silver, and Copper threads are usually preferred along with silk threads especially for the Kaftans style heavyweight fabric clothing, shoes, and bags.
